FASTest® PARVO Strip is a rapid immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative detection of Parvovirus antigens in feces of dog, cat and mink.
The canine Parvovirus (CPV) was first identified as a cause of infectious diarrhoea in dogs in 1978. Within a few months parvovirosis was spread world-wide (pandemia) showing high mortality. Today, parvovirosis (virus types CPV-2a, 2b, 2c) is one of the most important infectious diseases in the dog. The Parvovirosis infests also cats and minks causing Panleukopenia (virus types especially CPV-2a, 2b, 2c, scarce FPV) in the cat and Aleutian disease in the mink.
Mostly young puppies get infected oronasally and shed a high amount of the virus through defecation (1–2 weeks post infection). Due to its extreme tenacity, parvovirus can be infectious in the environment for more than one year. All dwellings and objects which were in contact with feces should be considered as potentially infectious. Typical symptoms are severe diarrhoea, vomiting, anorexia, dehydration and panleukopenia accompanied by high mortality rates.
The use of FASTest® PARVO Strip enables the veterinarian to quickly confirm an aetiological diagnosis of a CPV infection, to start the therapy immediately and to initiate the required quarantine and prophylaxis procedures.
